Pakistan’s Education Budget Hits Historic Low, Threatening School Access
Pakistan’s education spending has dropped to 0.8% of GDP, a historic low, with 26 million children—one in three—out of school, according to Save the Children. Despite a declared “education emergency” in May 2023, funding fell 29% from July 2024 to March 2025. This crisis, reported on June 20, 2025, disproportionately affects rural schools, increasing risks of child labor and early marriage, especially for girls. Urgent investment is needed to meet the UN’s 4–6% GDP target by 2029.
